This is Harlequin – write a lot and do it fast. It uses typical romance novel plot contrivances. They love each other, but she lies to him and says she doesn’t want him. This goes on for most of the book and also causes the big separation. Good guy fights bad guy and believes the bad guy is unconscious. So good guy turns his back and bad guy pulls a gun. Good guy should have tied him up before turning his back.Another problem: I was really lost in the first chapter. You need to suspend disbelief as to how and why they got married at first sight.
BUT there are good parts! I enjoyed her strong character. She had vulnerabilities so it was not cardboard. I loved the hero. I liked the dialogue and their passion for each other.

This is the first of three books of a Stacy Kayne family saga. I have read all three more than once and enjoy the stories each time. If you are a fan of the western genre and love romance you cannot go wrong with these books. Until I got my kindle, I never considered reading a Harlequin romance book. The covers were a big turn off for me. Frankly, I thought there would be only crude sexual incounters with no substance, well I was wrong. Actually, I think Harlequin would sell more books if they changed the covers, only my opinion. Start with Mustang Wild, then Maverick Wild, last Mountain wild. I read all sorts of books, I have to say western romance is my favorite even if the books will never be the "great novel".
I read alot, seriously A LOT! Between 3 to 4 books a week. Lately I have been bored with books I've purchased and was thinking maybe I should stop reading for awhile and let some new books come out. I always enjoy romance with realistic simple humor, but seemed to have run out of available stories. I ran across this book after starting two books in 1 week that I just couldn't get into and stopped reading fairly quickly. Boy am I glad I found this author. And even more surprised that this book is almost 6 years in publication. You really gotta love ebooks.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I recommend this book to everyone! Be prepared for lots of laughter, angst, tears and sighs. Skylar is a strong, independent, loving female up against Tucker a strong, considerate, stubborn male. Glad to read that they both were able to override their less than endearing exposure to the opposite sex and give each other a chance. Terrific HEA. Can't wait to start Chance's story.
Stacey Kane's writing style is nice, her characters nicely developed. This plot was okay, but the notion that they would get an annulment fell flat with me as one of the conflict drivers. I get tired of young women who aren't even out of their teens being near perfect at every thing they tackle - including their first sexual encounter. This is the west where life was hard and everyone was expected to pull their own weight, so I get that she could be accomplished at a few things. She was petrified of spiders and I could really relate to that. Tucker is a sexy fellow, liked him, except for when he had to educate her, a horse breeder, on her own fertility.
The emotions and dialog between Tucker and Skylar felt so overwrought to me. A pet peeve of mine is when a writer has characters identify by name to whom they are speaking even when it's perfectly clear to the reader. This happens frequently with Skylar. You'd think I'd be over that kind of thing, but nope, I'm not.
Had I read this one first, I may not have read the second of the series, Maverick Wild and I liked it. And, I liked Tucker and Skylar far better in that one too. Mustang wild didn't thrill me, but others clearly liked it more than I did.
This is the second book that I've read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Notably, this is the first book in the series and I urge readers to start with this book since I read the second book first and I have a strong desire to reread it now to continue the storyline. The author has done a nice job of creating memorable characters in the twin brothers, Chance and Tucker, and in the highly skilled horsewoman, Skylar, and her teenaged brother, Garrett. I loved Garrett. In this book, the romance revolves around Tucker and Skylar. Skylar is a strong yet vulnerable woman who exhibits a lot of courage and grit. The dialogue is realistic and not bogged down in mindless misunderstandings nor is there a lot of paragraphs devoted to boring inner thoughts. The dialogue is action oriented and there is a nice progression of the action, the relationship development among and between all four characters, and the maturation of Tucker into a responsible family man. The sex scenes are written better to reflect a more realistic experience and they are not as long and drug out as most, which is a plus. All in all, as this author's husband brags, his wife does write "killer romances".
Skylar and her brother ride into a tent city looking for the man who was to buy her horses. Instead she finds his twin brother, Tucker, and is tricked into marrying him. Neither want to be married, but he was drunk and she thought that he was the man her father had told her to find. As time goes by, she and Tuck can't keep their hands off each other and when she is taken by the man that shot her father in the back, killing him, Tucker can't get to her fast enough. He realizes that he can't and will not live without her.
Good guy should have tied him up before turning his back.
Another problem I was really lost in the first chapter. You need to suspend disbelief as to how and why they got married at first sight.
