A Measure of Darkness A Novel Clay Edison Book 2 eBook Jonathan Kellerman Jesse Kellerman

I have read the first book in this series, but I don't remember anything about it. And nothing in this new book brought back any information to help me understand what was going on in this one. The writing seems fragmented and links among people and actions disjointed. The characters are not full blown and I could not get concerned one way or the other about what was/was not happening to them. I finished this book out of loyalty to Johnathan; otherwise I would not have wasted my time.

A Measure of Darkness A Novel Clay Edison Book 2 eBook Jonathan Kellerman Jesse Kellerman Reviews

Certainly not one of his best. Disjointed confusing beginning. Overboard descriptions in some places. Better towards the end. The lead character is way less developed or relatable than his others.
I have long been a fan of Jonathan Kellerman, and of his Alex Delaware series. Perhaps the Delaware series is becoming somewhat formulaic, but those books still go by in a blur. Such is also the case with this new series, co-written with his son Jesse, featuring Deputy Coroner Clay Edison, in which A Measure of Darkness is the second entry. The Edison mysteries really do stand as distinct from those of Delaware. Kellerman pere et fil are quite capable of creating an atmosphere of verisimilitude. I don't know borscht about being a coroner, but the books make Edison and his adventures seem real. This mystery involves multiple deaths at a block party in a rundown neighborhood that is trying to reestablish itself. The path to the solution is a tangled one, accompanied by a mildly interesting subplot involving the extended Edison family. I am glad to see the Kellerman imaginations in good working order, in pursuit of a fresh new angle.
The first 100 pages are tedious. I hate giving up on a book so I persevered. It got better but not enough for me to be willing to read another book Jonathan co-authors with his son. I have read several of Jesse's solo books but gave up on him a while back. Sometimes the apple DOES fall far from the tree. Talent isn't necessarily inherited. There are too many good books out there to spend time on one that isn't any better than this.
When I first started the book I could mot seem to grasp on to it. It seems a little over the place but I stuck through it and I really enjoyed the story. Especially the characters That were written in the story. I was excited to have Alex Delwarte and Sturgis character involved. I love that series. But most of all, with this list of new characters I can not wait for the second book. I hope they will continue with a series. I will certainly read on!
The Kellerman family is a writing phenomenon. Papa Jonathan has written 33 thrillers in his Alex Delaware series as well as at least 14 other novels and five nonfiction books. Mama Faye is the author of 25 Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus mysteries plus eight other novels. Their son, Jesse, has written a total of 12 novels, four of them collaborations with his father. The most recent production of the Kellerman father-son team is A Measure of Darkness, the second novel featuring Oakland Coroner's Deputy Clay Edison.

A former beat cop, Edison can't seem to reconcile himself to the fact that the Coroner's Office doesn't employ detectives. He has developed the habit of pursuing investigations far beyond the call of duty and often against orders. In A Measure of Darkness, he sticks so closely to the detective leading a murder investigation that she takes to calling him "Barnacle." A Berkeley cop Edison once knew gave him that nickname. Somehow, it seems to have stuck. (Pun intended.)

The latest from the Kellerman father-son team
This latest product of the Kellerman father-son team involves the investigations into the death of four bodies that turn up after a violent confrontation at a late-night West Oakland party. Shooting began when three young neighborhood men approached a large group of mostly white men and women to ask that they turn down the music. A white woman had recently bought the old property and renovated it. As Edison notes after reaching the scene, "The problem was gentrification and a shortage of affordable housing, when you started kicking people out of a neighborhood that had been theirs for decades." Clearly, Edison is politically aware. He seems well suited for the Berkeley-Oakland area.

A star basketball player, now a coroner's deputy
By the way, Edison was a star basketball player at UC Berkeley. In A Measure of Darkness, he demonstrates how he managed to do so well even though he is a little short at 6'3" for a top college basketball player in a competition with his brother, he sinks 47 straight shots from the foul line. If you don't think that's impressive, just try it sometime.
Endless could not finish.... don’t bother to buy! Bought it because I have read all Jonathan Kellerman books this one was awful!
This is my first and last Kellerman novel. The problem is that the story/plot was boring. I kept waiting for the book to grab my interest, but that never happened. I read the entire book, but it became a chore rather than a pleasure. The characters were not interesting (I did not care about any of them). The connection between the shooting deaths at a party (plus one strangulation), a strange private school, and the characters was never really established, plus I just did not care. I will keep to Michael Connelly. Daniel Silva, Lee Child, etc.
