The Devilish Lord Will Mackenzies Mackenzies Series Book 10 edition by Jennifer Ashley Romance eBooks
FINAL DECISION: I absolutely loved this book. I'm a sucker for a couple who have new chance at love. This book has a deep romance and a lot of action and adventure. Loved these characters and their story.THE STORY: Josette Oswald needs help finding a legendary gold treasure and she knows there is no one more suited for such a hunt than Will Mackenzie. Josie and Will have worked together in the past in Will's spying endeavors sometimes pretending to be husband and wife. But Josie has a daughter to raise and Will's adventures were a danger to her family and her heart so she sent him away. Now she needs his help but she also has a secret that might destroy the long friendship the two former lovers share and Will's willingness to help Josie on her quest.
OPINION: This book was my favorite of the 1700s Mackenzies. I loved the relationship between Will and Josie. Things weren't right for them in the past for a multitude of reasons and I highly respected Josie for turning Will away in order to raise her daughter. Even though Will knows he is not one to settle down, he still is an honorable man who did everything he could to care for Josie and her daughter.
I loved just about everything in this book. Will cares deeply under his devil may care attitude. His immediate acceptance of Josie's daughter and his love and caring for a child not his own is admirable. And I really liked that Josie's daughter is not merely a plot device. She is a real character here and I'm glad that we get some resolution to her story as well.
The romance in this book is so different from the usual -- we meet and in a week are madly in love and want to spend our lives together -- story. There is a real sense that Will and Josie had something special a decade ago, but the time wasn't right for them. Now the two have a new chance and are in a different phase of their lives. While both have to clear up things from their pasts, this book has a strong sense that the two can finally have a chance for the future together.
There are a lot of moving pieces in this story, but the focus is always on Will and Josie. This is a story of two people who have a decade to realize that what they have together is special and are finally willing to give in to love.
WORTH MENTIONING: For fans of the series, this book gives an update on everyone (from the 1700s).
CONNECTED BOOKS: THE DEVILISH LORD WILL is the tenth book in the Mackenzies & McBrides series and the third book about the 1700s Mackenzies. This book can be read as a standalone although I recommend that readers consider reading the two prior 1700s books because they all are connected.
STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.

The Devilish Lord Will Mackenzies Mackenzies Series Book 10 edition by Jennifer Ashley Romance eBooks Reviews
Enjoyable read, interesting characters . Great book for a lazy afternoon. I would recommend it to anyone who likes those Scottish hunks historical romances.
The madness of lord Ian Mackenzie is one of the best romance historicals. No doubt. But this... though the novel isn’t terrible there isn’t much to like. The characters do what they must, though their motivations aren’t very clear. There is little chemistry between the two. And not much energy propelling the story forward. If you must read Ashley, go for lord Ian. Or one of the kat dalloway mysteries.
I was a bit disappointed with this story. Lord Will didn’t grab me like All the other Mackensies stories. It started very flat but, fortunately, did get better as the story moved forward. By the end, I did enjoy the book/story.
What a joy! The period detail, the exiting plot, and most of all the romance! Josette and Will are both wonderfully realized characters, with clever minds, strong wills, and enormous heart. I love that never once does Will look at Josette and see her past, except to admire her strength in overcoming circumstances thrust upon her. I love that she sees everything amazing and brilliant and admirable in Will, but stands her ground when he goes too far. The action is non-stop from page one, but flows so smoothly you’re never lost in the twists and turns. Do yourself a favor and read this TODAY.
This book was like so many others written by this author - a strong hero who was wronged or misunderstood or both. Visually handsome and oh so big and strong and sexy. Roguish but lovable. A heroine who is tough as nails, small, and wants to hate him but can't in spite of herself. In this instance the two have known each other for many years and even worked together at one point in the past. But she was a single mother who put her daughter first in her life and had to be the mature adult who said goodbye to Will MacKenzie. Now she's the one saving him in exchange for his help as they go on one more adventure together looking for some gold treasure that may or may not exist in the highlands of Scotland.
Loved, loved, loved this book! I have been a huge Mackenzie fan since the beginning and Ms. Ashley knocks it out of the park with this one. The attention to historic details and the characters themselves is remarkable.
Will and Josette have had a relationship for decades, but not until this reunion do they begin to realize (as slightly older, wiser people) there is more there. Their relationship is fiery which makes it fun to turn a page to see what happens - as Josette is not afraid to tell Will what she's thinking, good or bad.
This book is the third installment about the earlier Mackenzie's after Culloden battle. I was sorry to read that this was the last book of that era. Perhaps someday the author will write another. One can hope - as this was one of my most favorite ones of the entire series.
Jennifer Ashley does it again with this 3rd book in the story of the 18th Century Mackenzies. Accused of being Jacobites, the Mackenzies were all thought dead at Culloden. This story follows Will Mackenzie - the oldest of the brothers who are left but a wanted man in England and Scotland. He is determined to rebuild the family home and have his brother Malcolm rasied from the dead to become the Duke of Killmorgan.
With his longtime lover, he works to find justice for Scots who have been cheated and killed by English and Scottish lords alike as well as tryijng to find the lost French gold of the Jacobites.
This is a quick paced story with some laughs and tears along the way. Will and Josette work together but will he stay put after the adventure is over?
This is a Happily Ever After story that rounds out the story of the ancestors of the Mackenzies from the beginning of the series and the history they provide is a welcome addition to the series.
