They should be over each other.
For two years, Olivia has served her ex-husband coffee at the diner where she works, and waited for her heart to catch up to her brain. Because they were divorced now, and for good reasons. He wasn’t ever going to change. He’d always be a cop first, a soldier second, and a husband third, when there was time.
Rafe didn’t believe in love at first sight until he met Olivia, and then he was a goner. They’d been too young, too reckless, but that hadn’t stopped him from bringing her home to Pine Harbour, where there was nothing for her to do while he saved the world.
Then it all fell apart. And now…
He never stopped loving his wife, but he let her go when it became clear he wasn’t what she needed.
She deserves more than a part-time lover who once broke her heart.
Rafe wants a second chance to prove he can be the man she wanted when they fell in love.
And Olivia still wants Rafe despite all the excellent reasons why she shouldn’t.
They should be over each other…but they aren’t.

This is the kind of romance novel that continues to just make me angry when I'm done. In fact, I think I would rather a book be awful than find myself in the middle of a 4 star read that takes a tired, cheap way out at the end. How so? I was drawn in by the characters and their situation from the very beginning. The problems and emotions felt real and well thought out. I felt like the author tried very hard to treat the situation, a divorced couple who longed to be together again with the complexity it deserved. Neither was the bad guy, but both had made their mistakes. There was growth and progression for both of them throughout the book. Plenty of chemistry and reasonably well tempered angst. I was getting to the 75% mark or so and just loving it. Then, it happened. Rather than taking the hard path of coming to a resolution through the drama created by the characters and their interpersonal predicament, I got the cheap, over-the-top stunt. Without giving away anything, I'll just say one of the main characters goes through a traumatic event. And of course, that experience suddenly puts everything between the couple into focus. Voila and here's your bow! I was so disappointed. I wanted to yell, "But you were doing it! You were writing an engrossing emotional story about two good people wading through the complicated mess of an adult relationship! You were succeeding!" Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book. I just wish Ms. York would have been a bit more brave at the end. She didn't need the stunt.Product details

Love in a Small Town Pine Harbour Book 1 edition by Zoe York Romance eBooks Reviews
This was a bit difficult for me to get into at the beginning. Rafe and Olivia were divorced. They each wanted to be back together. It seemed like the originally broke up because he spent too much time at his job and didn't seem to place importance on their relationship. From his perspective, Liv seemed to be needy. But, it sounded like the divorce was due to more of a misunderstanding, and too much pride. Rafe asked her if she wanted a divorce, and she said yes, when she really didn't.
For me, at the beginning, it was really difficult to understand how they could be divorced, want each other so much, and struggle with being around each other. I also couldn't understand the whole situation with Olivia's friend, Lynn. What was the mystery? It wasn't resolved in this book. Hopefully it will become clear in future books. Otherwise, there was no point in mentioning it.
The whole situation with his mother liking/not liking her was confusing to me. The book became easier for me to read about 35, 40% of the way in to it., then, I was really into the story.
The wrap up did seem to be rather quick and abrupt. Maybe there were too many things going on for the length of this book.
This is a sweet little second chance story. Its my first book by this author and the writing is very good. Its told in third person and is drama free, it actually could have used a little drama. This review contains mild spoilers.
Olivia and Rafe have been divorced 2 years yet neither of them have moved on. He is a police officer and also does military reserves which leave him little time for his wife. This is their problem, his always putting his job before her. She not being from the area, and working for his mother had very little else in her life but him. She grew resentful so after fighting for so long they divorced. The love for each other is still there so he sets out to try to win her back. They do get their HEA however what I was disappointed in was they never really resolved their issues and her working a new job with as many hours as he didn't seem to be a solution.
Love in a Small Town has nice push-pull between a former couple, but the ending was trope that relied on a crisis to prompt a change of heart.
Rafe and Olivia were married... emphasis on WERE. It's been two years since their divorce. He's a cop and national guard. Being a husband is third on his priorities, and she can't stand it anymore. But being a waitress in the cafe in town means she has to serve him every morning, and that just hurts... every day. // Rafe knew Olivia was the one for him, but they may have married too young... he thought he did the right thing letting her go when he wasn't what she needed. He really wanted her back... But does she want him back?
Awww, nice push-pull between the couple. The only problem was it took a crisis to change their minds, like a disaster or major injury. As he's a cop, it's standard plot that he gets shot and both he and she had an epiphany that life's too short. And that just felt "meh".
Something about this book bothered me. It might be him bringing another woman to the diner where his ex-wife worked, and the situation that caused it. That niggled at me the entire book. He said she was his distraction of the month. I know they were divorced. It had been two years. But taking her to the diner? It felt mean to me. But I did like the book. He loved her still. She loved him. Seriously I can't believe they got divorced even. It was totally lame. They just needed to talk. It felt contrived. Oh well I need to move past it. I kept thinking that the company she was working for was shady and I expected it to be part of a drug plot but it was real I guess and turned out to be boring. I just expected more. The situation at the end was serious and tragic and brought the book to a resolution but I felt it lacked somehow. I did love the ending and I was glad they had their HEA. For that it got three stars. And they never really stopped loving each other. That was good.
