Older sister Cassie was fond of saying, "Christmas trees, Semantha," which made no sense and was irritating to me. While I am a fan of V.C. Andrews and the ghostwriter titles, this has been my least favorite of 25-30 that I have read so far. It was the most predictable, and also had the least developed and sympathetic characters. I usually like the lead character while finding her a bit naive. Semantha is very weak and somewhat stupid; not necessarily unable to process information, but without any reasonable ability to stand up for herself. She is very gullible. These books are often criticised for being formulaic, but usually what one predicts is twists, turns, and tragedies while not figuring out exactly what they will be. In this one, I knew what would happen all the way through, and even how it would transpire. Only one twist toward the end surprised me at all. There are also more typos than usual.
Basically it is a mediocre read and probably one of the last V.C. Andrews titles to choose.

Excellent book! Truly could not put it down until I knew the conclusion! I definitely recommend to any V.C. Andrews fan
I have read almost all of her books and am hungry for more. A look at life through a girls eyes, experiences are real and sometimes happy, sometimes sad a terrific combination for a good read.
I love absolutely everything VC Andrews. The characters are well planned out and the story line is always great.
The book was great. Another great one from the VC Andrews line. I just love her
I love all V.C Andrews books! This one is just as good as the rest. So many twists and evil people in them. Will read multiple times!
Main character, young sheltered rich girl who went to public school yet has no clue about sex? Strict older sister who seems unstable at the least. Add some tragedies & poor girl becomes slave to pleasing her sister & father. What could go wrong? The book is predictable but if you're bored beach or pool side it's an easy read
An interesting idea for a story. Two sisters, one cold and calculating, the other young, gullible and perhaps a little too eager to please. Add a dash of the Electra complex, family secrets and the fact that the book is written by a New York Times best selling author and you've got ...
Well, the Heavenstone Secrets had the potential to be something special. I have to give it that. From the way it is marketed, the Heavenstone Secrets looks as though it should be perfect guilty pleasure reading. Unfortunately, the story is let down by the way it is told - too many gramatical errors, too much purple prose that does not lead anywhere and most of the story revolves around conversations between the evil Cassie and her gullible sister Semantha. Although I never thought that the novels by the real VC Andrews were perfect, they were at least entertaining. The early ghost written novels (i.e. the Cutler, Laundry and Logan series) were of lesser quality, but still readable. This book, however ...
