The book has a lot of convoluted "plot twists/surprises" that don't really add to the narrative. The characters lack depth and leave you unable to form an emotional connection to any of them. The secrets that were meant to be shocking were dropped and glossed over hastily. Gone girl is clearly a partial inspiration and in all honesty a better read. If you haven't read already, wait for the movie and see if it fares any better. The raw material is there to be captivating but unfortunately it fell short.

I really wanted to like this book, but all three of the "main" characters were unlikable and really lacked emotional backgrounds.
I thought there would be more twists than were in the book, but the ones that were included in the plot seemed really odd choices. By the end of the book I felt like I knew Emily more than the author, and imagined other endings on my own.
I think thay the film adaptation will be pretty good of this book, and I'll likely see it to see if there are any changes.
Not my favorite book. It was quite boring and predictable. I didn’t like the end either. Someone should’ve been held accountable. Don’t waste your time on this one.
I went back and forth about how to rate this book. Genre-wise, normally this is my thaang, y'all. Character-wise, I think maybe it's best if I don't hate them all, right? Well, I couldn't stand all three main characters. Stephanie, up on her incestous high horse, blogging her way to salvation that she has no right to receive was my least favorite. And lucky for me we get most of the story from her whiney, morally twisted point of view. Emily, hell, at least she was honest about what an evil wench she was. None of this hem hawing, should I be good or bad crap from her, no ma'am. Which leaves us at Sean. Please. Can we say spineless, ladies and gentlemen? Or how about dull? Next to useless? Really any and all of these will suffice. If the goal was to create a cast of characters with no good guy, mission accomplished.

Now, the story, yes it was a tad cheesy. You saw a lot of it coming. But you didn't see it happening the way it did. Or for the reasons it did. That, and only that, made the book good. Really good actually. If only the characters didn't suck so much as people. It was fast paced - except for Stephanie's mind numbing blog posts - and the twists were placed just right in my opinion. Overall, it was a good book with terrible characters.
I downloaded this book after seeing the trailer for the movie. It looked interesting and Gone Girl-esque so I figured I would love it. Please for the love of all that is holy, save your money and time. I think my fourth grader could have written a better, more imaginative novel. How on earth this book got a movie deal is beyond me. The characters are all unlikable with lazy backstories and the story goes nowhere. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if someone told me this book was written by a recluse who hadn’t had any human interaction in years.
Uninspired, poor writing, plot and character perspectives. This book is a pass. Only finished it because I was hoping it would redeem itself. It did not.
The writing it self wasn’t terrible, but damn she threw every twist and surprise you could possibly think of into this book. In the end, it felt more like reading the script of a ridiculously over dramatic soap opera than a plausible thriller. Wouldn’t recommend.

I'm so blown away that this will be turned into a movie because it must not need to be a good book for that. Trust the reviews because this is just so so bad. Save your time and money.
